How do I sign in?

Two options on /signin — Continue with Google (one tap), or enter your email and we'll send you a magic link. No password to remember either way. Your email is the same identity across web, mobile, and the browser extension.

Can I import my old resume?

Yes. From the editor's Import menu (or /app/resumes/import), drop your existing PDF. We extract the text and run it through an AI parser that fills in your contact info, summary, work history, education, skills, and projects. You then review + save in the editor — nothing is committed until you click Save.

Which template should I pick?

All templates are ATS-friendly. Pick by personality:
• Sequoia / Maple — most conservative, best for FAANG / banks / consulting
• Cypress / Cedar — classic professional
• Aspen / Birch — confident modern with accent header
• Pine / Willow — minimalist, designer-friendly
• Redwood — dark sidebar, bold and visually distinctive
You can switch templates at any time without losing content.

Which browsers are supported?

The web app works on any current Chrome, Edge, Safari, Firefox, Brave, and Arc. The browser extension is currently Chrome / Edge / Brave / Arc (any Chromium-based browser). Firefox extension support is on the roadmap.

Question 5

How do I save?

Accepted Answer

Click the Save button in the toolbar, hit Cmd/Ctrl+S, or just stop typing for ~2 seconds — the editor auto-saves drafts. The save status pill at the top shows Saving… → Saved Xs ago in real time.

Can I reorder roles, projects, or bullets?

Yes. Every entry has a drag handle (≡) on its left edge. Click + hold + drag to reorder. Bullets within a role are also draggable. Keyboard users can Tab to a handle, press Space to pick up, arrow keys to move, Space to drop.

Why does my save show "some fields are invalid"?

The schema is permissive but a few fields still need to be strings (not nulls or unexpected shapes). The save status pill shows the first error. Most often it's an end-date — toggle the Present checkbox if the role is current.

How do I tell if my resume runs to two pages?

The preview pane has a page-count chip in the top-right ("1 page" / "2 pages") and draws a dashed lime line at every A4 boundary inside the page preview. If you see a Page 2 marker, you're spilling onto a second page.

What is the ATS score in the toolbar?

A live, rule-based quality grade out of 100. We check 12 things across Contact, Summary, Experience, Skills, and Polish — bullets starting with action verbs, metric inclusion, dates on every role, headline present, summary length, etc. It's not a real ATS test (real ATS varies by employer); it's a self-coaching tool. Click the Score chip to see exactly what's pulling your score down.

Can I switch templates without losing content?

Yes. Pick a different template from the dropdown at the top of the editor. Your content (name, work, etc.) is stored separately from the template — the template is just a renderer. Switch as often as you like.

What formats can I download?

PDF (the rendered resume), CraftMyResume JSON (our native format — re-import any time), and JSON Resume (the open standard from jsonresume.org — works with any JSON Resume theme). Click the Download button in the toolbar.

How does AI bullet rewrite work?

Each bullet has an AI button that calls DeepSeek with the bullet text + the role context. The model returns a tightened version that starts with an action verb and quantifies impact. Costs 1 credit per rewrite. If you don't like the result, your original is unchanged in the field — just don't accept it.

Does importing a PDF cost credits?

No. PDF import uses AI under the hood (DeepSeek + JSON Resume schema) but it's free as part of onboarding. We absorb the cost so the funnel into the editor stays frictionless.

Why did the AI parse my resume incorrectly?

Accepted Answer

Two-column PDF layouts and scanned (image-only) PDFs are the hard cases. We do column-aware text extraction and OCR fallback via a HuggingFace Space, which handles ~95% of resumes well. If a specific field is wrong (e.g. company glued with date), fix it directly in the editor — your edits override the AI.

How many credits do I get on sign-up?

20 free credits, granted automatically on your first sign-in. That covers ~20 AI bullet rewrites or 2-3 cover letters. Top up any time from /app/credits.

What does each AI action cost?

Accepted Answer

AI bullet rewrite: 1 credit. AI cover letter generation: 10 credits. AI tailoring a resume to a JD: 15 credits (coming soon). PDF parse on import: free.

Question 17

Do credits refund on AI failures?

Accepted Answer

Yes. If an AI provider returns a 5xx, times out, or otherwise fails, the credit is refunded automatically before the response reaches you. You only pay for successful outputs.

Can I change my username?

Not yet from the app — your username is locked at onboarding for now to keep public profile URLs (craftmyresume.org/your-name) stable. If you really need to change it, email support@craftmyresume.org.

How do I delete my account?

Email support@craftmyresume.org from the address you signed up with. We'll delete your user row, all associated resumes, jobs, captures, and revoke any extension tokens within 7 days. You can also revoke individual extension tokens yourself from the Devices section under settings (coming).

Where is my data stored?

User accounts and resume content live in a Postgres database we host ourselves on an IONOS VPS in Germany. Authentication tokens are signed JWTs (Auth.js v5) in httpOnly cookies. Server-side AI calls go to DeepSeek with no training opt-in. We never sell your data.
